Rethinking Involvement
Involvement between the rich and the poor has proven to be fertile ground for entrepreneurship and innovation, which are keys to development. Gift-based aid does not promote long-term empowerment or innovation, but there are many short term life-saving needs where the gift of charity is vital.
There are a number of ways to get involved through Global Connections:
1. Global Connections works with Grassroots Partners to ensure that needs are effectively met and people are treated with dignity in their culture.
2. Our Ambassador Program helps trip participants and volunteers engage and remain connected with our partners in the developing world. By becoming an Ambassador, you are joining our team and the fight for peace, freedom, social justice, and environmental responsibility.
3. There are numerous organizations around the world doing their part to work towards social justice. Global Connections has been greatly encouraged by the work of these Friends around the World.
4. Donating to the work we are doing is a wonderful way to get involved. We would highly encourage you to put your first donation towards your own trip to meet our friends in Kenya! If that is not a possibility you may donate directly to our Grassroots Partners or to our Administrative Fund, which allow us to keep this work going. Global Connections does not take a percentage off donations to cover our administrative costs, so if you donate to the feeding program (for example), 100% of your money will actually buy food to feed people.
